As an actress, musician, and dancer, I am eager to share my passion for the Arts with young audiences. I believe storytelling can be a dramatic event for performers and participants and has the potential to generate meaningful self-expression, emotional and intellectual development, and interpersonalconnections. It also allows participants to explore a variety of creative arts.
My background as a special education teacher informs the design of the storytelling workshops by drawing upon children’s participation and the use of strong visual elements, which are all hand-made, including set designs, costumes, masks, puppets, etc.
As a storyteller, I strive to create a world unique to the story, complete with music, colors, shapes and mood. It is important for me to remain sensitive to the cultural origin of the story or the version of the story I choose to use. That is manifested through choices of musical instruments, musical compositions and styles, visual elements and performance style. -Maya Blank
